That Santa peering out of the master bedroom is way too creepy.

It looks amazing! I love Christmas time

I hope someone puts a million santas in YOUR yard, get a life spend all this time with your kids and family instead of worrying what other people are doing

This is just horrible that you just can't let the kids enjoy the lights. Have a Very Merry Christmas!!!

My kids love houses like this. I think the people who take the time to take these photos and up loading to this site really needs to get a life. I believe the people who line in THEIR home should be able to do as THEY please with what ever kind of holiday decor they wish. I do not celebrate Halloween, but do I host a site to "rag" those who do.

I love the choir boys! Happy Holidays everyone.

I agree with vapor, everyone seems to have forgotten what Christmas is REALLY about. You should be happy that you have the privilege to even complain about it. What about all of those people who have nothing??

These displays are way too over-the-top and are gross compared to people who actually think about what they're putting up, not just throwing everything in their garage out in their yard. So yeah, just....don't!

Anonymous said...

Yes, but aren't any of you worried about a plane mistaking it for a runway?? LOL
I agree, let them do what they want as long as it doesn't keep me awake at night.

I love Christmas and it is a time of good cheers, but people has gotten so egotistical that they have to make their house look like amusement parks. It is wasteful and selfish. Sometimes, it is only wanting to show off to other people. It is not about Christms. We should conserve the environment for the kids. What is the point if they grow up to have polluted air and worst energy crisis. To truly celebrate Christmas, we should decorate public parks or buildings, so everyone can enjoy. If everyone concentrate decorations in these places, they will look a lot better.

To the comment above: Ok so if we didn't visit this site on purpose its sad that one like this exists. Indeed i don't think you would be happy if your yard was pictured here just because you wanted it to look nice.

To the author of the site: Its a shame that you cant find any holiday spirit in this time. Who cares if people go overboard on the lights? You dont like it? Keep it quiet instead of actually making aa site to ridicule it. And common.. violations? Whats wrong with you? Go out and have some fun..

To each his own. That's what makes America such an interesting place to live. I love it. There are people to laugh about everywhere...the Griswald's of the block (and there is one on every block thank God), the snooty uptight people that take life so damned seriously, the snooty uptight people who think "there should be laws against to many xmas lights", etc, etc, etc. If you can't have fun in your lifetime, what the heck is the point? You should move to some other super strict country and let Americans have thier freedom! Our sons and daughters and brothers and sisters and fathers and mothers are dieing over seas so we can have the freedom to do whatever we damned well please! Also, don't complain because you have to close the shades to get dressed because of the traffic. YOUR NEIGHBORS DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU NAKED EITHER...EWWWW! Your shades should be closed anyways if you are removing your clothes!!!

Have fun, be jolly, laugh alot, and have a Merry Christmas and Happy friggin New Year!!! LOL Ahhh Life if good.

yard decorating holiday lover rocks thiassite sucks they should just 4get this site and get rid of it

Who cares? At least they are celebrating Christmas! Who are any of us to judge? Did anyone here get a degree in exterior design?
With so many people not even doing anything for Christmas, why start making fun of the people who are showing off their Christmas Spirit. Everyone here should be ashamed of themselves for making fun of other people. The owner of this site should really be a shamed. This is no better then high school kids making fun of someone. Isn’t it time to grow up and act like adults?

i think it is festive and lovely! :) beautiful colors!! :)

Why are people getting so offended?? This website is to joke and laugh about extreme decorations...like National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Kat is NOT the grinch, and I enjoy these over the top decorations as much as I laugh at them. Quit being so sensitive, it's just a joke! Merry Christmas!

No degree in "exterior design", but fairly certain no one with such a degree would foist these yards upon us. Of course people have every right to decorate like this, but let those of us who are appalled by their bad taste at least have this funny site to laugh with the like-minded. To each his own, but we don't have to like it. And yes, children, including my own, do love tacky Christmas displays. But we're still not getting them the revolving inflatable snowglobe from CVS. Oh, those choir boys.

I think this one at least looks neater than the others.

I like this one, think my kids would also.

Everybody has their different opinions about Christmas lights! Just because some may put up a website about tacky lights others don't have to get offended, or just because people have a cool and different idea of what Christmas lights should look like doesn't mean that they have to be made fun of. Ya'know what i mean? To all the house owners, I looove the lights, ESPECIALLY when they're over the top, but again, that's just my opinion. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!

Anonymous said...

I love it!! My daughter said "Mommy wow, pretty".

Anonymous said...

Wow, wherever there is fun, there are people to spoil it. These decorations are tacky. If you really want to show your Christmas spirit and dedication to your religion, why don't you try not being an asshole for the OTHER 11 months of the year! Putting up displays does not a good man make. Anyway, this site is HYSTERICAL and bringing the "support our troops" jargon into this is soo irrelevant and inappropriate. Somehow putting up lights means you are exercising your American "rights" and therefore are patriotic? Give me a break! Your "rights" do not include consuming more than you need, wasting resources, and taking away from others' just because you want to or think it's your right. Lighten up and have some fun instead of making everything political. You have the right to put up tacky decorations only if we have the right to criticize it... oh and this house looks tacky. Merry Christmas!!

I get the feeling that a lot of these 'anonymous' posts are the same person just trying to be a troll. If so, please just take your political agenda elsewhere. Kat, keep on doing what you're doing. A lot of people appreciate the laughs from this stuff.

Please do keep up the good work, Kat! This collection you've got going is great, and concerning some of the negative remarks... what did any of us expect to find at a site named "TackyChristmasYards"?

Ignore the simple-minded people who don't seem to understand that our love of poking fun at these yards is just as valid as their intolerance of your site... only they had to search to find this website where as our neighbors put tacky lights up whether we want to see them or not... Hm...

BTW, did anyone else notice the "Christmas Story" lamp glowing in the window next to Santa?

Kat, Kat, Kat,

The reason why everyone was upset was because they probably got to you website through the Yahoo arctile containing the link to this website. The Yahoo article was atrotious and mentioned such things as making it against the law to have too much christmas decorations and that the neighbors have no privacy (to undress in front of an open window). I thought this site was funny, but the article really ticked me off. I love humor. The article was not humorous in the least and when people start to feel thier freedom and rights may be taken from them for such minor things as celebrating the Lord's birth, and that our ancestors and brothers & sisters over seas have lost thier lives for nothing, it can tend to strike a nerve in a whole lot of people.

Just a little explaination - since you obviously don't seem to understand.

Heck yeah, I wouldn't be too happy because if I had lights up and would of known that it would be labeled tacky then I would rather have my pic featured on Blue collar tv for the redneck christmas lights of the week. lol
Actually I have a different view on tacky lights, If my lights were tacky but yet people are still smiling because they are tacky. At least I would be able to say that I brought a smile upon someone's face. And that they are not sad.
I love lights. I love the nice ones and I love the tacky ones. And the ones that cuts down this site doesn't really see the way we see it because they take christmas lights too serious.

EXCELLETN LIGHT DISPLAY!!

Some of these are very nicely lit houses. Shame on you thinking you are judge and jury of what any household's particular taste is and SHAME for claiming that nobody collects snowmen or Santa Claus.

Yard displays are FOR FUN, to spread cheer, and with families, the kids get an input...so if they want Santa to celebrate the birth of Christ with them then that is up to the kids/family who is living there.

"just a fun challenge to find the most violations." This site is not fun, and NOT in keeping the holiday spirit by picking on people who have spent many hours working on THEIR yard to it the way THEY wanted it and thinking you are somehow better as are those who sent in pictures so you can stand in judgment as you people are the only RIGHT ones....which of course is not true, God judges all of us. Not any one human is allowed, nor should be proud of being this harsh on fellow mankind.

There are NO RULES as to how anyone decorates their yard. You want to share, try a MY OPINION OF TOO MUCH, etc. would be more appropriate as there are no violations as there is no right or wrong.

Sign me irritated in Iowa!

This is just good fun people, some of us like all the lights, some of us like to laugh at other peoples idea of 'decorating'.....don't get so worked up about it!

Anonymous said...

Kat - your site is hilarious! I love it! ...And I love these houses, I wish I could see some of them in person. Our neighborhood is very subdued.

That light in the window next to Santa Claus looks like a stockinged, high-heeled leg to me - is there something we don't know about Santa???

Now don't get all upset over that, people! Like(I think)Kat, I'm poking fun with love.

LB

P.S. Sorry Kat, I'm commenting annonymously because I'm afraid I'll get hate mail from some of these "defenders of Christmas lights." So far I haven't had to enable comment moderation and I don't want to start.

Yeah, I question the mental stability of some of the posters here. Do you have no sense of humor?

And I'd love to get some hate mail from these folks, seeing that I plan on ripping them to shreds on my own blog.
