I just read the article at Wall Street Journal about tacky displays, which led me here. Love the site!

Does this mean the Abominable Snowman was not one of the Wise Men that came to see the Christ child?

Love how the spirit of Christmas gets twisted by some into a contest of how much useless, plastic crap and obnoxious lighting they can possibly fit into the confines of their property. I'm all for celebrating Christmas. Though it would be nice if everyone could keep it relevant to the birth of Christ.

You ever notice how someone always says no offense or no offense intended right before they offend someone or take a shot at someone like you did with you lead in line right above the posts...

How bout this one? Perhaps you could send me some pictures of your outfits you wear every day so I can come up with a site to post them and let people critique you on your clothing style. See my point? By the way, this site is tacky in and of itself, the layout is a mess, the site is unorganized and the color scheme used looks like it was put together by a 4 year old...No offense intended of course... :-)

See not so fun when the shoe is on the other foot. By the way I own a web design company so you really should look into those problems I pointed out....

Maybe next time you'll think about that before you do something like this. If these people wanted your advice or opinion they would have asked you for it. And another thing who said any of these people had the right to photograph these houses and send them to you. The least you could do since your encouraging this is require some type of permission to be given to you or the submitter from the home owners before the pictures go up. I can't see how you'd feel otherwise, but if someone stops by my house and takes a picture, I at least want to know what it's for.

I'm betting your one of these picky somewhat anal people who goes crazy over the dumbest things that don't affect you in any way other then what ever it is that's bothering you just looks different or out of place. Of course I guess this site proves that already. Don't get me wrong it's a free country, supposedly, so if you wanna keep the site going that's on you, but I'd really suggest another hobby or something because this is pretty lame. Sorry if not everyone wants to have dull white lights, bows, and swag Victorian garland outside every year. It's just boring and if everyone did that then who would care what anyone's house looked like they'd all look the same. I mean a multiple Santa Violation? What's so funny about that? These people put a lot of work into this stuff and whether we like it all or not doesn't really matter, they deserve to be given some credit for their efforts not mocked.

And as for neighbors complaining about the lights being on, if people would just use common sense and talk to neighbors about the problem to find some common ground I'm pretty sure that would solve most of the problems people have with these displays. For example if you have a hard time sleeping at night because of someone's lights just ask them if they'd mind turning them off a little earlier, perhaps at 10pm instead of 11pm or midnight. Most people would understand and work with you so it doesn't get to the point where complaints need to be filed or something along those lines where it gets really nasty.

This whole thing is pretty much stupid. I'm just glad your not my wife, otherwise I be asking you pretty much constantly to stop wasting you time doing this sort of thing. And yes I'd bring it up when ever it was convenient like when you forgot to do something that was actually important that should have been done instead of working on this site....:-)

Merry Christmas

If your gonna leave a mile long rant, you could of at least had enough guts to post your name. Unless you have something to hide.

The portions of the site that now scream out loud and boldly "no offense, but here goes" are done because of the recent comments left by people who have no regard for what a website states it is there to do. It used to point out that the violations were created for fun, and showed the amount of good times spent finding houses, and having them sent in to tackychristmasyards.com As for the site itself- it is tacky. It also is a standard google blog layout. It may have been designed by a 4-year old, but I doubt it. I think Google has to employ people older than that- I simply picked it because the colors fit the "Christmas" theme. I wish I had time to have a better site, and it will be completely re-designed for next year, but this was made overnight- on a whim. Apparently, it was a good idea, because of all the fun comments and suggestions we get. TackyChristmasYards.com has been kept it family friendly, and it's sad to see so many people come in and destroy wholesome fun- even if you think it isn't fun, why make it not wholesome? (to the long poster- your comments are appreciated, and I'm glad you kept it rated PG or G- as for webdesign, send me an email with a quote- this site was such a success, it might be worth paying someone to make it better- I just can't afford to have it done in under 60 minutes the way blogger did it for me!)

This site is so funny. To the ones complaining: some of these pictures were actually sent in by the homeowners themselves because unlike YOU, they have a sense of humor.

Well Said, Kat. Thank you for putting up this site.

Kat, Kat, Kat,

The reason why everyone was upset was because they probably got to you website through the Yahoo arctile containing the link to this website. The Yahoo article was atrotious and mentioned such things as making it against the law to have too much christmas decorations and that the neighbors have no privacy (to undress in front of an open window). I thought this site was funny, but the article really ticked me off. I love humor. The article was not humorous in the least and when people start to feel thier freedom and rights may be taken from them for such minor things as celebrating the Lord's birth, and that our ancestors and brothers & sisters over seas have lost thier lives for nothing, it can tend to strike a nerve in a whole lot of people.

Just a little explaination - since you obviously don't seem to understand.

Ah- was wondering where all this hate came from. Do you have the link to the article? Can you email it to me? tcyphotos@theburbblog.com

HAHAHA, this site is hilareous. Clearly many featured in the photos are putting out these "decorations" as a total joke. Sponge Bob? Ya, right. Frosty in the Nativity scene? It would have to be a humorous poke at the commercialization of the "Holidays" (formerly known as Christmas.) Then again, some people are really stupid.

Hey "yard decorating lover": I'm glad I can afford to live in a neighborhood where people hire professionals to put up their decorations. This way we all don't have to put up with any idiots (like you!) who have WalMart garbage decorations scattered all over the place.

I'm all for regulating stupid people and limiting the level of tackiness of their Christmas decorations. This country has played to the lowest common denominator for way too long.

Heavensent,

You're the idiot. I hope one day you lose everything so you can see how 80% of the country lives. We'll see how you feel about things then. And for your information, I live in a very nice neighborhood and have very limited decorations up. I have a string of lights on the edge of my roof and a beautiful wreath on my door in which my daughter and I had alot of fun together creating and two small deer in my yard and that is it and nothing came from Walmart. But just because I am doing well with my life and choose not to over-decorate doesn't mean I can't appreciate others "works of art" and unfortuante situations. And I hope to God that I don't ever hire a decorator to do my yard for me...that really takes all of he fun out of it. How boring.

It would really be a very boring world if everyone was alike and everyone was like you. I think I would jump off of the planet!

To Anonymous: the worst crap on this site is your venemous rant. You have no sense of humor. I can't look at these photos without laughing -- love this site. Bah humbug to you.

There is not offense given if none is taken. - Jedi Proverb

You can have pics of my wardrobe anytime. I know that I am the worlds crappiest dresser so it would be no surprise what people say. You need to let up a little bit and laugh. If you can't laugh at yourself, then you have a big problem.

As far as taking pics of people's houses that are decorated, they put those decorations out there for everyone to see. It is a public offering and, therefore, the pics are allowed. If they don't want to be critiqued, they should not decorate. Critiquing occurs with or without the pics, private - in a person's car as they drive by - or public. What does it matter.

Personally, I hate Christmas with all the materialism, selfishness, etc. Haven't celebrated it in over 15 years because. When my children were little and they wanted something at any time of the year, they got it if I could afford it. Since I was divorced and raising them on my own, it was rare if they got it. No waiting for Christmas, though. None of that, "Maybe Santa will bring it". There's another thing. What a big lie we tell our children by saying that there is a Santa. Why not tell the TRUTH. No, instead we teach our children to lie with making up stories about Santa, the Easter bunny, etc. Then parents scratch their heads and wonder why Johnny lies to them all the time. "Just a little white lie," Johnny says.

My children were never told that there was a Santa or Easter bunny or whatever. The worst that happened it that they got in trouble in school for setting the other children straight.

I suggest you get over you hatred of others having an opinion and move along. If you have a problem with something, really search inside and find out why it bothers you so much. I think that you would be very surprised when you find the answer.

Yeah, I see we have a lot of killjoys here. Enjoy the site for what it is and try not to have a heart attack, k?

yard decorating holiday lover,

Seriously, get a grip. You complain that the world would be boring if everybody was alike. And yet, you are whining about people who have different opinions.

At least try to be consistent in your pathetic ramblings. Seriously, I'm getting more humor from you than the website!

Very cool. Love it. Continue your great work. Disregard haters' comments they woundn't have any fun if it hit them on their head.
